    In the wild they might "lie low" during the shedding process, because most of their energy is being used for that, which is one reason many of them (but not all), may not feed at this time. I would leave the animal alone just for now...

    Indeed. It is also thought that overly exhuberant handling could damage the new skin underneath the old.
