Wiring a Dimmer Switch

    Okay. Got a dimmer switch and box from the hardware store. Was going to wire it into a three outlet extension cord. Followed the diagram and did hot wires to hot wires. The extension cord had one ground wire and two other wires. So I wired both those other wires to what the diagram makes it look like are the hot wires for the dimmer. However, doesn't work. Swapper the set up thinking maybe I put the power in onto the 'out' side for the dimmer. Still no go. Helps??

    If you could post pictures of the diagram and how you wired it I'll try to up help.

    I got it. There was three wires in the cord. I didn't realize one was neutral. Only difference was some ridges on the outside. Dims wonderfulllly. Yay.

    Thanks though. I ended up having to Google it as wiring it into an extension cord, not 'heat mat' to actually find directions on another forum. It explained the ridged wire and all that.
