he still looks pretty impressive to me.

Your photos with the focus stacking example seem to bring out a little more detail, but the yellow seemed to get washed away and the color isn't as rich as the first photo. Was that a result of the stacking or just manipulation?

Thanks Mike. A simple curves or levels adjustment in any photo editing software may solve your problem.

lulubelle, I'm not sure I see what you're referring to in regards to the yellows--they look pretty consistent to me. What you're seeing, specifically on the upper portion of the thorax, may be related to that part of the fly being in focus, which reveals more of the robber fly's sheen. The very same may apply to each individual hair. Check out the higher res versions on my flickr (link in my profile)--you should be able to get a better idea that way. On a completely unrelated/random note, your screen name is a combination of the names of two of my father's goats. Lulu (mother) passed a few years ago but Belle (daughter) is alive and well :)

    Awesome photos Matt, as usual!
Love the horse photo, looks like he's got his winter coat on :)
Gorgeous eyes on the bird :)

I'll have to take a few photos of the spiders that take care of the insects in my sunroom, they are doing a good job with the earwigs and crain flies.

It's just that bit of yellow, but it may just be my monitor. Peeked at the photos on Flickr. Impressive.

Glad to hear Belle is alive and kicking... Lots of coincidences have been popping up this week. :)

I'm back! And reviving this thread as of NAO!

Unfortunately, the universe decided to unleash it's full fury on me the last couple months, but I'm still laughing and flipping the bird to the sky :D still have all my reptiles (5 snakes 1 Leo), plus 6 Tarantula's now. So, all is well.

Here's a pretty bad Macro shot I took recently.. Enjoy :D
