The red is for passion, blue is for logic.
Hopefully I can steer the straight path in between!

You guys all have awesome tattoos, but I really love the meaning you have behind them! That's what really makes a tattoo I think. But tattoos just for the fun of it with no deep significance are lovely to, I mean I do have a MFC on my thigh lol.

Ok so now I want to share my big tattoo idea, you all got me in a sharing mood. It gets a bit mushy, this is a love story above all. This will be a full back piece, starting right at or right below the belt and going up over both shoulders.

For the actual tattoo there's a little story. There's a robot standing in a field, and he's holding a beautiful rose waiting for the love of his life to finally find him and accept his rose. He waits for so long however, that a tree begins to grow beneath him, and ultimately grows through him. Until finally there is this huge oak tree with 2 robot legs entwined and bonded with the roots, a robot torso embedded in the trunk, a robot head up in the branches, and 2 robot arms also in the branches. One of those robot arms is still holding a beautiful rose, more alive and vibrant than ever.

The roots will go across my full lower back, the trunk will rise up the right side of my back, and the branches will spread across both shoulders. On the left side of my back, will be the chorus to my all-time favorite song:

"Gravedigger, when you dig my grave, could you make it shallow so that I can feel the rain"

    Gravedigger, by Dave Matthews Band

So here's the grand meaning behind all of it. I've said before I'm an atheist, and I try to use logic to explain all things. I believe if science can't explain it, it will someday. However, while I don't believe in God, I do completely believe in his greatest lesson; Love. I really am a hopeless romantic at heart lol. So the robot is me, overly logical, extremely patient, and willing to give it all up for love. The rose is of course my heart, waiting for the love of my life to accept it.

The tree, is the rest of the world (bear with me here lol). With my obsession with logic, I used to just push aside and discount just about everything I heard from the media and most people's beliefs. I used to judge that most people are illogical and not worth my attention. I always listen and humor people of course, but I never really take what I hear to heart.

So here's where the song comes in. I am the robot, but I'm also the gravedigger. The speaker in the song, is the seed of the tree that grew through me. I dug the grave of society in my own mind, ready to shut it all out. Society "told" me to make it shallow, so it could feel the rain. I could never truly shut everyone out. So I half-heartedly buried everything. The rain came, the tree grew, and I became part of it. I still have my logic, but I am part of society and my heart beats stronger with the help of everyone around me. I can't expect to be loved without loving the presence of all other people and their beliefs and methodologies as well. So the rose is brighter than ever.

Also, it is an oak tree because in Celtic Tree Astrology (I don't believe in astrology really, but I am Irish and the sign descriptions are actually spot-on for this one lol) my absolute best friend (I refer to him as my brother) is an Oak. It represents him perfectly.

So yeah that's my big long mushy story of the next tat I want lol. I want it NOW but it's probably going to cost close to $1000... So idk when it'll happen.

Zack I'm afraid that might cost you much more than $1000. Depending on who you can get I guess.
In my area a full sleeve can cost $2000.
You need to draw that out and show us. Sounds interesting.

Flint I wouldf love to see that drawn out. But I am afraid I have to agree with kriminaal its going to cost for that.

Yes at least at last count. I was an aspiring tatoo artist when I was younger. Lots of the work I did on myself. They definitely need to be redone a bit. Umm... Let me see if I can remember all of them.

7 dragons all on my legs, a lion fully maned on outside of right ankle, 2 wolfs on inside of right ankle and right thigh, 2 roses one on left leg and one on left chest, 2 unicorns one on stomach and one on my left hand, three tigers two on my shoulder and one on my left hip, a tribal band around my left arm above that is a tribal shield, a heart with tribal designs running trough it, my nickname on my wrist, a bird that I drew that looks somewhat like a phoenix on my right arm, Chinese character for love on the back of my neck, a hooded king cobra on the small of my back, catwoman (dont ask that was the very first one), and a ford insignia that I got 3 years ago for my dad that passed (we both are obsessed with mustangs) and various little flowers and the like... I may have forgotten some I always forget the ones I cant see anymore.

being a tattooist i figure i better post too before yall get worried about me! lol i honestly lost count around 40 tats on me, everything from eyeballs, to roses, a 32 ford coupe, devils, skulls, i am a phone book of letters to include my last name, the complete prayer from boondock saints, no mercy and no regrets down my shins, reapers, dopey the dwarf, ghosts ghouls, tattoo machines, nautical stars, popeye, autobots emblem, crosses, ect ect. i do have to be honest, if yall are paying $1000 or more for a sleeve, you are paying too much! i did a full back piece for $500 that was huge and very very detailed, but i am one of few artists that does it because i enjoy it, not to clean out your bank, wish about half of you were closer to me, id make it all affordable for ya.

    Oh i HATE that lol.

Yeah I really haven't talked to any tattoo artists about yet, mainly because I don't have anything saved up for it yet so there really isn't much point wasting an artists time when it might be a year or 2 before I actually get it started. This weekend I'll be spending some time with my 3 brothers again (this'll will be the first time we've all been together since I got my MFC tattoo, and again the one that left to south dakota is this time leaving to Australia and other places around the world for 6 months lol) so I'll see if I can get the artistic ones to draw up something close to what I want and I'll post it here :)

One of my friends is about to do three cover ups for my bf, and one of them is going to turn into a half sleeve. All three of his, plus my two are going to cost us $500. Some tattoo artist charge different prices based on the type of person getting it, instead of the actual ink itself, so beware of getting ripped off.

Kathy, I wish I could see some of those. I am in a position where I want so many tats that I already have drawn up, but money is what keeps me from having them.

Too bad Andy is so far away. Might be worth the trip to get some ink done.
I agree Katie-Lynn I have much more important things I need to pay for rather than tats.
    Guess that comes with age.

Mike, so true! Why does growing up have to cost so much? We could do a group trip to Colorado, and possibly get a HC discount on some ink... ;)

Heck, if you make it cheap enough, it'll be cheaper to pay you airfare to get you here than to pay a local parlor, lol.
