I have an empty standard 40 gallon aquarium, and I have no idea what to put in it. I was hoping for a list of snakes that could live in there it's whole life. Just a note: I would prefer something on the larger side, but I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for the help.

If the 40 gallon tank is your enclosure size limit you're looking for snakes that don't grow over 4'. Some king and/or milk snakes, African house snakes, sand or rosy boas, Children's or spotted python, garter snakes, Western hognose.

I would add to the list Rainbow Boas, beautiful snakes. Just make sure whatever you get, if you get them as a baby, you block off most of the tank for later use somehow. Baby snakes typically feel secure in smaller areas, and a 40g tank would be very stressful to a little baby and they may not eat because of it.
