From my experience with reptiles shedding mine have always shed in one piece when they are small then as they got bigger and had to shed more they started to shed it multiple pieces. This happened most notably with my kingsnake.

I would check your humidity level. If it is too low it can cause shedding issue

I second humidity, low humidity is almost always the cause.

Piecemeal sheds are usually the result of too low humidity. It has nothing to do with size.

In snakes, 99 times out of a hundred your humidity is too low. Lizards generally shed in pieces normally. Shredded sheds in snakes can usually be fixed either by increasing cage humidity, which is generally the best option for ball pythons, or providing a humid hide, which work better with countries and others that prefer drier environments.
