i would vote scleroglossa for the monitors and snakes.....but skinks? you gotta be kidding me...
Everyone has, and is entitled to have, their own interests and favorites!
Thats one of the things that keeps our forum interesting.
hey...i just pokin fun.... some skinks are really cool.
I love skinks! Last year I was lax in mulching the gardens, and I left an enormous pile of mulch baking in the driveway under a tarp. It still got nice and moist from all the spring rains and early-summer storms. Round about July, I finally started shoveling and wheelbarrowing (note: not a fun activity in 90-degree weather -- don't procrastinate like me!), and near the bottom of the pile, I found two clutches of little white eggs, along with some adult five-lined skinks. I carefully moved the eggs to the garden (back under the mulch), except for a few that I put into a bowl of mulch by the front door. The kids and I checked them every day (well, several times a day, lol), and one day we found a baby skink. So we took the remaining eggs to the shade to watch them, and the kids were each actually able to hold one in their hands as it hatched. It was amazing!! We will never forget it.
Thats great Amy! I bet the kids were very excited!
I know I would have been!
They were excited, and I was beside myself! I took pictures, but they didn't come out well at all, unfortunately. Very blurry.
Too bad about the pics!
I still get excited when a lizard breaks cover and runs in front of me!
But then I am easily amused!
Skinks are magical animals. I'm certain that if there was an animal that was long overdue for magical firebreath, it would be a skink.
But as low to the ground as they are,... they would toast their own toes!
