Is it safe to mount a heat mat on the side of a glass tank or would the glass get hot enough to cause a burn if a snake were to rest against it?

why would you attach it to the side of the glass?

The tank will be used for a young carpet python. I want to be able to keep it warm up on the perch as well as in the warm hide (preferably without the use of a bulb).

It shouldn't, but UTHs do little to warm up the air, they are for warming up substrate

They work great actually. I have them on the side of my chondros enclosures and they warm them up nicely . They provide a warm side aswell allowing the other side to be cooler. My temps get into the mid upper 80s. I use both the 8watt for some and 2 16watt for the adult, she rest against the glass sometimes and has no issue because she moves around as needed.
