Why is oil-based poly unsafe? Can it be used if it cures longer?
My husband got the oil-based and I didnt realize it till this morning. And after 2 hours of work last night coating the entire enclosure with it, Im not very happy!

I am not sure that, once thoroughly cured, it wouldn't be safe. I just prefer the water based because it was easier to clean up and it seems to dry and cure quicker.
    I am a messy and impatient person!
Once the oil based is set and no longer putting off fumes it should be ok.
I know around here the oil based is about half the cost of the water based!

Oh thank god I was so worried! I thought I was going to have to buy another can and start all over on Venus new 7T x 5L x 4D cage. Iggy is getting the old one. We noticed Venus was have difficulties with the cage design so we made one more suitable for her. The oil-based was $33 for 1 gallon I think it is. What a relief!

Unfortunately, the issue with oil-based is thus.
Oil based products do not cease to off-gas vapours at a higher level than water-based.
Water-based still do as well. But to a lesser degree.
