I am worried about shakira.. it is pretty cold and if there is a powercut witch there will Be! What will I do? I don't know what to do please help!!!! I'm working tomorrow and she is due to be fed tonight! I know not to feed her as she needs heat to digest but is there any way I can keep her warm?

Have the electricity board informed you the power will definitely be off, 60mph winds are strong but not "hurricane" force?

For some reason I keep thinking you have a Ball python, it`s a garter snake and they are subjected to some extremely cold conditions in the wild, I would seriously think that even without heating the snake should be fine even if the power cut lasted a day or two, obviously you want to keep the tank in the warmest room, you can also cover it with a blanket/similar.
Just a thought; I hope you can manage to get through the day if your mobile phone goes off, too??? ;)

Definitely skip the feeding if there's a chance you'll lose power. If things get desperate you can always put hot water in a bottle and wrap that in a towel. A day or two and the snake will be fine.

Unless it is really frigid, in which case I wrap hand warmers up in a towel and put it in there.

Relax! Corns are not a tropical species. They are much more tolerant of cool temperatures.
And you want the water bottle just hot from the tap, NOT boiling.
What are your expected outside temperatures?

So how was the hurricane? Hope all went well and your snake came through fine, and you too!
Coming from the Caribbean, where hurricanes are a regular issue, I can understand your anxiety over Ophelia. Very unusual for one to have got to you way up there in Northern Ireland!
    It's been a heck of a hurricane season - I hope it's done.

Wow. Glad you are OK through all that! Never underestimate the power of nature, we in the Caribbean know that for sure. This year 3 hit the USA hard, including Puerto Rico where 51 people died, according to the latest count. They (USA) got Harvey, Irma and Maria. Monster storms.
Stick around! This is a great site.
