I bought a Mac's wood refuge, took it home, and boiled it (since I'm paranoid of termites), and then I noticed it had a strong smell, possibly cedar. There was also a bit of sap that leaked out the top, but then dried.

Has anybody else here used a Mac's wood hide? If it is cedar, then why is it advertised to be used with herps since cedar is bad for herps?

many companies who make pet products could care less if it actually works, if they think they can make a buck from you. Calci-sand is the same - horrible for herps, but advertised for them the same.

If it worries you, you can use a sealant on it - polycrylic or the likes.
