I took out the trash and decided to check, as it's breeding season. And lo and behold, there was one adult spotted in the "pool" area of our backyard creek! I didn't see any others around, so I sure hope a mate shows up for this one!

Wish I had a photo, but it's dark out there, and I don't know how to get a decent shot in the dark through the water.

Anyway, very exciting! The kids and I have found egg masses for several years now, and have two half-grown 'manders from the mass two springs ago, but this is the first time I've seen an adult in the wild!

Re: Just Saw an Adult Spotted Salamander in the Creek!

When I clean up the campsite in Souther NH, I always see at least 3 or 4 when I'm raking out the pine and hardwood leaves away from the screenhouse and decking around the camper. I just pick them up and put them down in the heavily wooded/swampy area down the road. I make sure that I cover them back up with dead leaves and such. It is still pretty cool at night, and I believe that they still need some cover.
