What's the best substrate recommended for green iguanas?

So many different opinions on this. What have you used? Why does it work for you?

    Thank you for your time.

Most long term iguana keepers, myself included, recommend no substrate at all. Anything particulate runs the risk of being ingested and causing an impaction. The bottom of my enclosure is tiled with newspaper covering it.

Agreed, they don't burrow so you really don't need to use a substrate, and it creates more work for you when it comes to cleaning.

IF you really want a substrate I'd just use a layer of plain old dirt/topsoil. Probably the safest if he does happen to eat some, and the upside is the dirt gives you a chance to wet it and boost humidity if necessary.
