I caught a wild garter snake about a week ago and noticed there was a cut on his tail that went quite deep but it wasn't bleeding or infected. The tail from the cut to the end looks lifeless and doesn't move with the rest of his body. Just today I went to look at it and it looks worse and bled a tiny bit. Is there anything I can do to help the wound heal, or is it too cut that it won't heal? Do you think maybe it's just falling off and I shouldn't interfere? Do garter snake tails ever grow back?

I posted 2 pictures, the first one when I first got him (if you can zoom in you can see where the tail is cut) and the second one is what it looks like today.
