I am getting a sinaloan milk snake I have a wooden vivarium and was just wandering about the heat mat I will have to put it in the viv under the substrate and I've heard that milk snakes burrow into the substrate and was concerned about him burnig himself . Any advice would be great Thanks , Kieron.

Welcome Kieron! If the pad is hot enough to burn the snake you need to put it on a regulator to turn it down. Either a thermostat(My choice) or a rheostat.
A Rheostat is basically like a light dimmer switch to turn it higher and lower. If the temps in the room alter you have to keep fiddling with the Rheo to get back to where you need to be.
A thermostat will actually set the temperature and hold it there.
