OK, so long story short I am doing some research on what a good beginner amphibian would be. Right now, I have narrowed it down to either a green or gray tree frog, or a fire bellied toad. I was wondering which would be best for a beginner, and what kind of set up each species would require.

Fire Bellies are great for beginners! They are beautiful and very nice.

If I can suggest a amphibian, I would suggest a Whites Tree Frog. They are pretty common like FB Toads and are nice.
The only drawback I can think of is that they need about 15 to 20 gallons.

BTW, if you get the FB toads, are you keeping them in an all water tank? You really don't need to keep them with a filter. In fact, just get a 10 gallon and a large water dish. They will be fine!
