Hi, I`ve never used the HQL bulbs but I have a friend that does (in Germany), I can send him an email but it may take several days to get a reply if you want to wait?

    hi murrindindi,

yes i like to know what your german friend says about HQL bulbs.
the reason i ask because apparently a lot of Euro reptiles keepers are using HQL bulbs from Osram.
i know HQL produce UVA and heat but if they do produce UVB then we can save alot of money!
they also comes in lower wattage 50w and 80w which also saves running costs.

they maybe the "poor man's MVB" lolx

    thanks

O.k, I will send an email very shortly, it may take a few days but I will get back to you. I know my friend was using the Osram ultra vita lux tubes (bulbs?) HQL.

    hi murrindindi,

osram vita-lux is not a HQL. it is similar to zoomed powersun or exo-terra solar glo MVB. but higher wattage 300w.
but i believe the german keepers knows alot about HQL/HWL bulbs. because i see in all the german forums mentioning using them for reptiles. i really like to know what your friend says about using HQL for reptiles.

    thanks

Hi again, I had a reply from my friend, unfortunately he cannot say whether those HQL bulbs emit UVB, however he wrote quite a long chapter on lighting a few years ago, it was included in the following publication, maybe you can either buy a copy or perhaps borrow one from the library, though it may still not answer your specific question, I`m sure it will give you a much better understanding of lighting in the terrarium.
