    I actually got to interact behind the scenes with a breeding pair of Japanese Giant Salamanders when they were housed at a local zoo, they were about 3 ft long and HUGE! Very beautiful animals.

    That must have been quite the experience!
    I didn't even know these things existed, I'm always amazed. I thought that site was just too cool, there is one frog that eats her eggs and they hatch in her stomach and then they come out of their mouths! how cool is that.

    it truly was a great experience, I have kept salamanders over the years, but when I saw the size of those giants I was astounded! Even more so to find out they have quite the mouthful of teeth!

    Yes, those frogs are truly huge. Very protected species.

    I'm pretty sure it's the male that 'eats' the eggs...

    But yes, the past summer I got to find some of americas giants! Working with the hellbenders was so much fun and I will get to do it again this year!

    That salamander is perfect hugging size. So cute.

    Oh my word...thanks for sharing those. My first Amphibian was a Salamander!

    Handling a 3ft salamander must be hard since your not suppose to touch them.
