      Hi Sam,
      What country are you in?
When I was new to keeping snaked I had Corn snakes. They are very easy to keep and very placid.
I now have a Royal Python which is a male so therefore shorter than a female and less round. They are great to keep and only grow to about 4 1/2 foot long.
Both the Corn and the Royal have not problem with frozen defrosted food but the Royals are well know for being fussy eaters. My Royal only eats for 3 to 4 months of the year every year. According to what I have been told it is because he is a male and when it is breeding season he won't eat. He's in great condition and healthy.
Hope I have been of some help
