Shedding issues?
I don't know if this is a shedding issue or a skin problem.
She's been acting like she's going to shed. But she didn't, instead.. her skin looks very dry and almost cracked and bumpy. I've been using the Reptile Shed Aid one her like 3-4 times a week. And have been misting extra. And today I took her and rubbed her while I kept her under warm water. Is there anything that I could be doing wrong that would cause this? I'll post a pic of my setup later tonight too but temps stay at 85 on the warm side.. hotter in her basking spots. I did notice she's been more lethargic lately and prefers to stay mainly on the UVB side of her tank. I have two pools in there for her one on the hot end and one on the cool end. humidity drops to about 50 during the day but she gets misted like 4 or 5 times to bring it up and I have a humidifier on her when I'm home for a few minutes in an hour (I still need to get an automatic timer... *tomorrow*). I'm just worried that there's something wrong. Here are some pics..she has really changed since I got her in March! I HOPE THE LINKS WORK.. if not then paste the http into your browser... Here's what her tank started out as.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...on/dragon7.jpg here it is in the developing stages.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...n/dragon10.jpg and here's an after http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture001.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture002.jpg here's baby Scarlett in March http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...on/dragon1.jpg and here's big girl Scarlett.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture004.jpg |

Your temps are too low. The temp on the warm side should be 88deg. And your humidity is too low during the day as well, it should be 80% never dropping lower then 60% tho. It looks like shes just having a hard time shedding, you should just continue to bathe her in warm water (83 deg is perfect) and rub it to loosen it a bit. Shes a beautiful WD

do you use an ultrasonic humidifier?
Even when I use one, the humidity drops REALLY fast... I guess Chicago is just super dry. Or it could be the fact that my room is in the basement. The temp right now is 87.5 degrees (I love me some digital thermometer). About 90ish on some of the braches that are higher up and a little over 100 on top of the branches. Humidity I do have a problem with. I've tried moss.. I have the humidifier. I have two pools of water. I mist... the **** thing doesn't HOLD! I've heard that coconut bark works well but I can't find it anywhere!! How do you maintain humidity? |

Coconut bark+water dragon= nasty eye infection..every time a WD is put on coco bark its bound to get an eye infection so just avoid it all together..I use a mixture of peat moss and green moss for substrate and I cover half the top of the scrren with a dripping wet towel...I also have a huge fileterd pool over an under tank heater so the water is always evaporating and creating more humidity. I also mist the cage a couple times a day...it keeps the humidity up really well

You can use a heating pad and just put it underneath the cage and the water bowl over it. The towel may not look pretty but it helps...alot. I dont reccomend zoomed under tank heaters...they are the worst ever!! Check out bigappleherp.com they have a good selection when it comes to Under Tank Heater

thanks a lot! You're always such a big help! I think I'm going to get her a heating pad and put it under the big pool she has (kitty little box)
I'll let you know how it works! |

too keep the humidity up try a combo of peat moss and green moss and soak it a little bit (warning crickets will breed in there ) but if you take em out to feed them or use a sterilite container to feed them in it works great
