Growth Rate

Hi there,

My Chinese Water Dragon Miyagi was about an inch and a half shorter then Karamu and just as thick in girth when I first got him. Now he's almost 1.5 times as thick and an inch longer then Karamu. He was still about half an inch shorter when he started to develop his crest. They both have grown...Karamu 2 inches and Miyagi about 3.5 inches over the last couple months.

I'm pretty certain Miyagi is male and Karamu is female. Also, male CWDs get up to 6 inches larger then females. My question is, do males then grow faster then females? Karamu and Miyagi feed at the same time and eat about the same, as I make sure both get adequate amounts. I have noticed that Miyagi eats maybe a cricket or 2 more then Karamu does, which may account for the faster growth rate.

So, what are your opinions/remarks?

Thanks!

When I first got my 2 water dragons, Sally(femlae) was bigger then Jack(male), he ate about 3 crix less then she did a day but within 6 months of having them he grew to be alot bigger then her. You can sex them by turning them over on their bacs and looking on either side of the vet on the inside of the legs, you will either see noticable brown "dots" or youll see tiny ones. These are called femoral pores and males have bigger, more noticable ones then females. Males crests will grow alot higher then females will too. Id love to see pics of your Chinese Water Dragon

My male Chinese Water Dragon used to be a bit smaller than my female, (partly because he refused to eat) but now he's as big as her and seems to be getting a little bigger sometimes. Under his chin is turning blue, behind his arms is a very bright orange-yellow color and his crest and pores seem to be growing too. My female though is still about the same as before, not a whole lot of change in coloration or anything. You might have one that just likes to eat, or you might have a male it's hard to say.
