Broken Tail

Moved Tarzan into her new cage today, but not before she was able to break her tail in the old one... I have no idea how it happened, but it did. It's a bad break, looks like blood under the skin, about 2/3 of the way down her tail (about 3 inches of tail). It's pretty thin down there, so I think the vet will probably cut it off. Gonna call first thing in the morning for an appointment, but I doubt I'll be able to get her in until the end of the week... Any suggestions in the mean time?

well, it went worse (or better) than I thought. As the vet explained to me, she has ring tail (at least thats what they call it in mammals). Layers of skin that never shed, due to low humidity, which eventually cut of blood flow to the end of the tail, which eventually led to this. I never even suspected it, since her tail has been like that since we got her, and I never had any reason to think it was bad... She said there's also some shed build up on one of her hind legs but that should be fine. Just have to soak her 3 or 4 times a day to get rid of the old shed, and she's on baytril for the week. She also said to put polysporing on it, not so much for the antibacterial, but for the moisture.

Going back next Monday for a check up and then she will decide where the tail will be amputated, but she'll most likely get half of her tail removed. Doc said most of the affected tail is pretty much dead so she likely isn't feeling it too much (and she's been very active, as if nothing was wrong). Anyone know how much an amputation costs? (bill was $80 today, 60 for the consultation and 20 for the baytril) Anyways, she'll be fine, will just take time.
