EEK! his light just exploded!
that can't be good! I had a 150w bulb on over his water to heat his water - it was working cause he frolicks in his water now - but I just heard POP - went to check and sure enough. The thing exploded. You shoulda seen the look on Lee's face - heh heh. Priceless. If a dragon could say what the heck he would have been saying it!
So now what? I tried an Under Tank Heater to keep the water warm and it didn't work. Where do I get one of those little heaters to go in the water? |

If the bulb was close enough to the water for him to splash water on it- that's why it exploded. Good thing you were there to clean up the mess ASAP.
you could try a light again ... but not right over the water area ... maybe off to the side, but pointed toward the water area. maybe that would work. What is your water temp with out the extra heat from the light? If it's about 80 F that should be warm enough for him to enjoy.

I am thinking of going with a Ceramic Heat Emitter. his water temp is way too cold without some sort of heating element near it/in it. The Ceramic Heat Emitter just seems the easiest way to go. And this time I'll move it farther from him screen!

if you could make it out of his reach, and depending on the amount of water, you could try a submersable aquarium heater. would need to make some way to keep him from braking it though. like a box made out of plastic egg-crate.

dperlis,
I have a couple of questions. First off why did the bulb explode? Is it inside the tank over the water dish, or on the screen cover over the cage. How big is the cage? I would be very concerned if the bulb was in the cage with the dragon as he/she could have a chance to get burned. But if its over the cage then I would agree with a Ceramic Heat Emitter as it would throw plenty of heat down on your WD. Steve |

It is outside the cage - over the screen. I thought it had exploded because it got wet since its over his water and he was frolicking when it happened. But then my boyfriend took at look at it and said it was burnt on the inside. He said it looked like it exploded from inside, not out - because all the elements inside were charred.
I got another one and placed it on a clamp further away - still above his water. Hopefully no repeat explosions! |
