Leezard is home!

YAY! Finally! The vet said that he really couldn't find anything wrong with him. He isn't sick, or have parasites or anything. he merely has "maladjustment syndrome" ie he's stressed. He said it kills about 50% of water dragons. He has no idea why Lee keeps crashing, his exact words were "he's one odd little guy". He keeps going hypoglycemic (sp?) because he stops taking care of himself, he isn't maintaining himself the way he should be but he doesn't find any physical illness to be causing it so it is all mental. NICE! He told me not to be surprised if it happens again, that Lee seems to just be a very stressed out little guy. Niiiiiiiiiiiiice. He gave me some calcium supplement thing for him to give him 2x a day, back to the sauna baths at least 2x a day and dr's orders to take it "one day at a time". Also he wants me to remove the substrate and put him on like an astroturf, for some reason this T-Rex substrate keeps getting stuck in his eye.
At the moment Leezard is as spunky as I have ever seen him. He has eaten 3 waxworms (the dr said let him have more than 2 if he's willing to eat at this point) and 1 mealworm. And that's AFTER being tube fed this morning. He's bopping all over his cage and watching me whenever I go look at him - so he looks really good!
Oh and it was funny, the vet was giving him his calcium drop for the day and Lee attacked his thumb. The vet said "as you can see he feels better." LOL
I never thought I would be so happy to get my lizard back! Thank you for all your prayers!

That is awesome news, glad to hear he is home. One questions...is he in a high traffic area, thats the only thing I would be able to think of as to why he is so stressed.

Hello,

Stress can be cause from high traffic areas in the home like Marsha stated, loud noise (music blasting), inadequate hide areas, other pets that are within "seeing" distance, improper temps, etc.

I would try to place the little guys enclosure in a location where it is quiet most of the day. Perhaps add some fake foliage to one side of the enclosure allowing the WD a place to "hide" if he chooses to.

hmm yah he is in a pretty high traffic area. I mean someone walks by there often and he can definitely hear my kids playing and they are loud. I can add more foliage for him to hide in as well. I had him in my son's room which is really quiet but the temperature in that room is really cold and it was difficult to maintain his temp right. I'll see where -else I might be able to move him.

Thank goodness, I'm so happy for you and Leezard! It's awesome to hear he's doing so much better! Good idea to move him to a lower-traffic area -- what might not bother one animal will probably stress Lee to the max, seeing as he is a "sensitive" little fella LOL.

I covered a lower part of his cage with some paper like Msh said - he then burrowed under some moss and went to sleep. I'm supposed to give him a calcium drop but he looks so peaceful sleeping I feel bad. He's had a pretty busy couple of days. Tomorrow when we give him his sauna we're going to take the substrate out, clean his house and put in the astroturf. Figures I would get the emotional lizard, I've already had a dog on prozac and a horse that was allergic to flies! Dr. Doolittle I am not!
