I have a very sick WD

Sadness. I took Leezard on an emergency visit to the vet this morning and the vet said he has to stay there for awhile. Lee hasn't tried to eat a cricket since Sunday. I think he ate some mealworms on Monday (unless they got away again) but he has basically been surviving on babyfood the last few days. Then I noticed (as did MsH in a photo) the mucus on his right eye but unfortunately money is so tight I was trying to wait to take him in. Uh uh. Yesterday he couldn't even open his right eye. I tried cleaning it out for him and when he finally opened it there was just all this gunk in it. Plus he was super lethargic yesterday - even wtih 3 baths and 2 syringes of food. We put him in his water and he made no attempt to move - just stood there and let his face fall into the water. So sad.
Anyhow - he is at the vet. The vet had me wait for an hour so he could warm him up, soak him, observe him then told me I had one very sick WD in poor condition - that he came from Petco in poor condition and that he has a very long road to recovery ahead of him if he pulls through. I felt awful - but the vet says it isn't my fault (the lighting/temp thing) that he looks like he has been sick for a long time.
Now the argument with the boyfriend begins - he thinks I should just return him to Petco and get my money back. I say no - they will just let him die and he doesn't deserve that. besides - I'm attached to the little green bugger now!

I don't understand. If he was sick at Petco - does that mean if someone hadn't bought him they would just let him die? Is that how it works? I can't imagine Petco sinking money into nursing him back to health so I keep wondering what would have happened if someone hadn't taken him home and given him the attention he needs?

Unfortunately that is what most likely would have happened. Petco stores have vets that they are suppose to use but often that does not happen. I am continuoulsy contacting someone regarding there reptiles.

Sorry about your WD. I hope he pulls through. I got both my WDs from petco and they both had problems at the start. I don't recomend buying from them unless it's products not pets. Good luck with Lee.

Yah he really seemed like he was on the mend. Am on hold with the vet - I called a couple of hours ago they said he had opened his eyes for a few mins but then went back to "sleep" and would call me back. No call yet - but they are short staffed today. I just don't know if I am leaving him there for the night or picking him up.

I have a tendency to be very... ummm... strong-willed about things like this.

If you don't mind me making a suggestion:
- See if your vet will either contact Petco or write a letter detailing Leezard's condition and the fact that it is due to their lack of care.
- Contact Petco yourself, or bring said letter to Petco, and tell them that if they don't refund your money (if not pay for your vet bills!) you will be contacting at the very least the Humane Society, if not the media, about their poor care of animals and their willingness to sell a sick animal to an unsuspecting customer.

See how fast that gets you a result. If they don't cooperate, do just that: report them.
