Which are the lights that do both?
I have read about a bulb that will both heat and give off the UVA/UVB - which are those? Are those good? I am having trouble messing with my combo basking light then the flourescent tube light thing. My basking light keeps melting the tube light's housing. Sigh. am thinking an all in one might be worth it. Any recommendations? I have a 20 gallon tank I think.
thanks
Deb

UVA = Ultra Violet Radiation in the A range (specifically 320-400 nm)
UVB = Ultra Violet Radiation in the B range (specifically 280-300 nm)
and here's a link to the best lights on the market

I think you're thinking of a product called UV Heat (i think by Trex) or Powersuns, however, the problem with these bulbs is that they can't go on a stat to control the temps.
It really depends on what temperatures you're trying to achieve - the megarays (sold on the first website Ken gave you) give off a little heat but nowhere near enough to warm the tanks up to what a species like, let's say the bearded dragon, needs.
Since it can be so difficult to get the temps just right with just one bulb we prefer to use a combination of UV lights and CHEs or spot bulbs.

I use a MVB(mercury vapor bulb) that produces UVA/UVB...is that what you are talking about?

I thought there were bulbs that will give off both the UVB/UVA's as well as heat the tank. I can't believe how much trouble I am getting his tank to optimal temps

I find it much easier to use a MVB (for UVA/B) a basking bulb (for daytime heat) and a Under Tank Heater for 24 hr heat, with rheostats on the basking bulb and Under Tank Heater.

it's what you plug the light or Under Tank Heater in prior to plugging it in the socket, it has an adjustable temp setting so you can regulate the amount of heat it puts out.
