Dragon not eating

I have had my dragon Saki for a little over a year. When he was younger he would eat every day but as he has gotten older he usually only eats every 2-3 days. He just finished another growth spurt and is just under 2 feet. But he hasn't eaten now for a little over a week. He is still active, not skinny, and deficated 2 days ago. Temperatures and humidity is still normal. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I am starting to get really worried.

Are you sure your he is indeed a he? And what do you feed your dragons, I have 2 a male and a female about the size of yours and my female will eat about 30 crix and 20-30 mealworms every other day and once a week she will get a pinky and 2 wax worms..I couldnt get her to eat for the longest time but she started eating alot again once I started feeding f/t pinks ..ir you are only feeding criz then he may be bored with them..your dragon is big enough for pinkeys...so you may want to try that...also what is ''normal'' temps and humidity? temps should be 84-88, and humididty should be about 80 percent..what type of substrate do you have him on?

lol I am getting good at quoteing myself, here is my answer from your post in GD:
Quote:
Hi BlueDragon,
If Saki is acting normal in all other regards (same active behavior, good color etc) then I would not stress to hard on the skipping meals issue. Both Pooka & Skittle are around the same age, perhaps a bit older and are doing the same things for several months now. Pooka will go through spurts where I think she is gravid and skip entire weeks almost of eating only to hit the food again and go back to normal. Skittle will also skip meals but I have foudn he will never refuse a pinkie, I think he holds out for them.... Does Saki have a favorite food that perhaps he is holding out on you for? Do we know for sure Saki's sex? At 24 inches you should be able to get an educated guess on it, if Saki is a girl things might make a lot more sense. Keep us posted.

The humidity is always between 70-85 and the temperature is around 85. I go between thinking he is a boy or girl. At one point his crest grew very quickly and I thought he was a boy but then it hasnt grown since so I don't know anymore. He eats mostly crickets and waxworms and every once and a while giant mealworms but I barely feed him those due to impaction risks. He is in a custom built cage with reptile carpet on the top shelves and tile on the bottom.

Hello,

Like mshrmheadcharge stated, I would throw a pinky in there and see if you can get a feeding response from him. I would imagine you can give him a live one as a pinky can't do any harm to your dragon.

The waxworms could be your problem, you should reduce feeding those to once a week if at all possible because of the large amounts of fat they have in them, its hard on their liver...also crix will cause as much ''possible'' impactation as mealies, if not more you should start feedign whole prey as it very healthy for them...umm, how often do you do vit supplements? with an WD your size you should only be supplementing calcium/vits once a week, http://www.herpcenter.com/showthread.php?t=6973 here is our care sheet..hope it helps!

I give him the waxworms once or twice a week. I give a multivitamin supplement on Sunday and then a calcium supplement on Wednesday, with the exception of this week because he hasnt eaten. Do you have any advice on where I can get the whole prey, my petstores dont sell pinkies.

You can order them online...you can try bigappleherp.com I think they sell them. A way to check to see if your dragon is indeed a he is to pick him up and look underneath his thighs and you should see femoral pores, which are brown looking ''dots'' if you will...if it is a female then she shoudlt have ones that are too big if any at all...it is important to know the sex of your dragon becuse if it a female, weater or not it has a mate it will lay eggs, and you want to be prepared for that, since your dragon is almost 24 inches..which is when they reah sexual maturity

Hey, I finally found a place that sold the pinkie mice, and after putting it in front of him for about 10 minutes he finally ate it
