Awesome! your dragon finally ate pinky im so happy for you!! and the little guy of course...was it nice and clean or did he rip it apart? It helps to drag the pink infront of the dragon, to make them think its alive lol..well im glad to hear the buggar ate! now you can just feed a pink once a week...since this is his first pink I would suggest not feedign for 3 days, so he can fully digest it..do you have a Under Tank Heater (under tank heater) if not oyu should consider getting one just incase he wants to warm his belly..I noticed mine always like to do this after eating a pink

He ripped the head off first and then ate the body second. I use chopsticks to feed him because otherwise he misses easily and tries to get my fingers instead. Using the chopsticks I kinda got the pinkie to hop in front of him and he eventually grabbed it.

Lol, yeah...Sally and Jack both tend to rip the heads off first too, Sally likes to eat hers whole, but Jack gets entirley too messy for my liking..hes takes the head off first the he gets the body in his mouth and thrashes back and forth throwing guts all over the feedign cage... last time he got intestines on the side of the cage and the pinks guts were hanging out..after he was done eatign he went around licking the guts up and sally then licked soem off of his face..ughhh it was soo gross..this week was not bad at all tho(thankfully!!)

Glad to hear you got a feeding response, although from your initial post I would have agreed that it wasn't necessarily a cause for concern. He had defacated just two days before and normally only eats every few days, which is normal for an older lizard who doesn't need as much intake as they are not growing at the rate a young lizard is.

FYI, I wouldn't personally use a Under Tank Heater unless it is on the outside of the tank as lizards have a higher risk of burns on their underside as they do not feel the heat, and it is more natural for a heat source to come from above. If your temps are correct then he shouldn't have any problem digesting food regardless of how you heat the tank.

I also disagree with the mealworm/waxworm statements. These food items cannot cause impaction - mealworms can, however, be more difficult to digest due to their hard exoskeleton, and waxworms should be fed less often because they are fatty and are better used as a treat. We feed our Bearded Dragons large mealworms quite often with no problems - don't be afraid to vary the diet of your WD a bit more; variety is always best, especially if your dragon will eat different foods. Pinkies should be fed once a week at the most, as these, like waxworms, are very fatty, but it's great if your dragon will accept them as they are particularly good as treats and for post-gravid females to put the weight and fat back on more quickly.

Yay, glad to hear he ate. I agree the first part of keeping a WD healthy is observation, you can discern many patterns after some careful observation, its like getting to know a new co worker or friend.
