cling is sick, possible upper respetory infection?!?

working at a pet store, ive seen turtles blowing snot bubbles. i asked what was wrong, i was told they had a upper respitory infection.

last day or so cling has had labored breathing, and snot bubbles. is this what I might think it is..?

the only thing that has changed is I fed him his first pinky 2 or 3 days ago (dont remember). He did fine, and I came home and saw him doing this.

answer me back asap

Hello, sorry to hear Cling is ill. Here is a link to Tricia's page of common illnesses in water dragons. Sounds like a vet visit might be in order.

Is anything else different about him? - activity levels, appetite, termperament?

Firstly, just to reassure you, the feeding of a pinkie would not have done any harm, so don't be worried about that.

What are his temps?, what's the set up like? UV?

What you describe does sound a little worrying, has he done it again since? So perhaps a vet visit might be in order, however, do remember that you are talking about two different animals here - the animals in the pet shop were turtles, your animal is a lizard.

Good luck and please let us know how you go on.

he still does snot bubbles occasionaly, temps actually where a bit high88 hot and 84 cool humidity is mid 70's

the lighting I use provides uva rays, and he is by a window so the sun is always on him.

anything else I should say??

thanks again for the quick reply

thank you for the link venus

according to what I've read upper respitory infection should be out of the picture, considering the coolest his tank ever gets is mabye 78 and thats at night. The humidity is never an issue considering there is a running waterfall on one side of the tank and a hamick pool hanging near the top with an air stone.

i couldnt find anything about the snot bubbles, they are not as frequent, but still worrying. even more worrying is ive spent the money I can spend for the rest of the month.. the closest vet date would have to be the 5th of next month..

You need to make sure your UV source has UVB also, that is the artifical sunlight for your reptile. Even though you have his tank by the window, he is not getting the UVB he needs, the UVB does not go thru glass and is not getting to your dragon.

Hi,
Sorry Cling does not feel good. It does sound like a URI with the bubbles and labored breathing (although labored breathing could also be stress but not the bubbles). My wd had this problem last year and had the same symptoms. Does he make a small popping noise or look like he's swallowing hard? Is he gapping (holding the mouth open)? Is he eating, pooping, peeing still? You should really take him to a vet ASAP. URI's are easily treated but if left to long then the wd can become a very sick. If it's not a URI than at least you will have peace of mind and find out what is causing the bubbles. That is not normal.
Your temps are not high. They should be 84-88 with a basking area of 90. Night temps should be 75-78. Since he probably does have a URI you should raise temps about 5 degrees to make sure he stays warm.
I don't know what kind of set-up you have but if it's a tank you should get a Repti-Sun 5.0 tube for UVB. It's one of the top tubes. You need to make sure it's no more than 6" from his basking site and that there is nothing between the tube and basking area (ie. glass or even closely meshed screen will decrease the amount of UVB getting to your guy). Not enough UVB can cause other problems such as Metabolic Bone Disease. You can get the tube on-line. It's cheaper than a pet store. Big Apple Herp was having a sale but I don't know if that is still going on. If not you can also check out 4littlepets.com (previously reptiledirect.com). They have good prices too.

Hope Cling feels better soon. Keep us posted.
