Laboured breathing and snout bubbles sounds like an upper respiratory infection to me ... although I can think of one other way that a WD might blow bubbles ...

When have you seen the bubbles? When you've been holding him? After he's eaten or been in the water? My dragons startled me a few times by blowing bubbles. I finally clued in and realized that they sometimes did this right after being in their water area and or drinking a LOT of water (and then being held).

I know your dragon is new to your home so I'm thinking your dragon is sick. As Char said get your night time temps higher .. go for 84 F at night until the dragon seems healthy (a month or more - it's new to your home and stressed).

Tell us what brand of UVB light your are using? Is is a bulb or a tube?

Have you checked your cage temps using a different thermometer? Just for accuracy?

Please don't leave your cage in a window ... the dragon is not getting any UVB from being in a window. IF the tank is in a sunny area being near a window could be very dangerous for your wd ... the tank can heat up very quickly in the sun to dangerously high temps. Also ... I'm not sure where you live, but if you are in the North it's probably getting cooler and being near a window could be drafty for the little guy.

I agree with the others that your dragon should see a reptile vet ASAP. Please try to locate one tomorrow morning. If you need help finding a good reptile vet in your area please let us know approximately where you are located (just a city or town name and state/province is all we need) and we can try to help you find one.

Tricia, about drinking the water then being handled. It happened twice. I just read what you wrote, and that makes perfect sence. After the second time I saw him do that, i didnt handle him until today. Do you think I should still keep the vet apt just to be sure? Labored breathing comes from stress, he is now shedding, could that be it?

Is Cling still considered new, i got him about 5 months ago. Would he not be used to everything by now?

i would take him to a vet for a checkup. it doesn't cost too much and it may be necessary to make sure your dragon is healthy. as for the UVB. that you need. without it you will run into other health problems down the line. the window doesn't cut it. a bulb can be from 20 to 30 dollars depending on the size and where you get it. you want to make sure it is at least a 5.0 UVB output for the waterdragon. plus you need the fixture to hold it.

FlamingCling I would still keep the vet appt. I think it's a good idea for a new reptile pet to see a vet shortly after it's purchased and at least go for a check up once a year (very least have the stool checked for parasites once a year). So, having said that if your dragon hasn't had a health check since your purchased it, it's a good idea. Besides ... even though your dragon is doing better (good news!), I'm sure you'd want to make sure that whatever was going on really is clearing up. Bring a less than 24 hour old stool sample with your for parasite testing while you are at it.

Having had the dragon for 5 months, Cling should be used to you and his home. His symptoms shouldn't be stress related- unless you've made changes to his home, or near his cage recently. They don't really like change all that much and can be slow to adjust.

So you think you saw some of these symptoms (bubbles) after he might have drank from his water and then was handled? I really hope that that is all it was. Dragons drink a lot of water at times (it's like they've been deprived of it for a while the way they gulp it down sometimes!), and it's best not to handle them for a while if they have just had big drink or a meal.

I really hope that this wasn't an infection, or that if it was that your raising the temps helped him start to feel better. I still think a vet visit is a good idea.
