Can I have some advice,please?

I would love to know from your experience if I could keep just one chinese waterdragon and what is better, boy or girl;and would a 48"x48"x60"(hight) be enough for just the one??
Thanks so much for your advice.I'm very curious to know if they behave diffrent when kept alone.

Hey Jacky...The following information is a section from Tricia's(dragonden) caresheet...

Size of Enclosure
Water dragons need height, since they are climbers, but they also need length! Provide branches to climb on (soak in weak bleach solution to kill parasites first, rinse well, and let dry), plants, basking areas, hiding areas, and ideally if you can make at least 1/3 of the ground area water.
Water Dragons need a space at least 2 x their total length therefore you will need to provide an enclosure that is a min. of 6 ft long (side to side), 2-3 feet deep and 4-6 feet high to do it right.

Here is the link for the entire careheet to give you more information.

Hi Jacky, I keep 2 water dragons. Currently I house them in a 48inX18inX18in tank and they seem to do fine in there. I have plans to build a 6 foot long, 5 foot tall, 2 foot wide enclosure before the year is over with as the final viv. As has been said the rule of thumb is 2 times as long as your dragon will be (males get to about 36 inches, females 24) and the taller the better.

Jacky, you can definitely keep one dragon on it's own. They are solitary creatures in the wild, so there is no reason why one wouldn't be happy on it's own in a large beautifully set up enclosure. (As with many other species they can live in groups too but you always have keep a watchful eye for aggressive behaviour.)

My page has virtually all the info you need to set up and care for a wd properly and as you know the people here at HC can help you out with any questions you might have.

Thanks all of you!Tricia, your page is great!! I have been dreaming about a waterdragon for quite a long time now and was ready to build that huge cage for them, but then came Nikita into my life and I fell in love .So she got the huge cage now,lol .But I love to read about them and hearing from owners about their keeping and experience, because one sunny day I'm gonna build a WD cage, maybe in 2-3 years time when we can build the house.I'm sure until then I will have learned a lot about them. They are sooo cute;our local zoo has got a pair and a wonderful environment,I could stand there in front for hours and watch them, even they don't move much, lol.
The male they got is just HUGE!!And soo beautiful
Thanks again guys for your help;much appriciated!
