wondering how much to feed
hey everybody, i was wondering if lizards will stop eating when full? I keep feeding Zooki(I used to watch allot of Godzilla movies when I was younger, his baby was called Godzooki, hence Zooki)until it looks like he is going to pop. I mean are they like dogs and will eat till they are sick? Thankyou for your input.

Most lizards will carry on eating and eating if you keep giving them food - some will stop when they're full, but overfeeding and overeating can be a problem and lead to obesity. This is not so much a problem with young lizards, as they are still growing at a rapid rate, but older lizards can store too much fat and this is just as unhealthy as an underweight lizard.
How old is your dragon? I usually just estimate how much food to put in, although I don't own any water dragons, but for our adult Bearded Dragons we usually put in around 10-20 crickets per dragon, with occasional meal worms, wax worms, etc, and plenty of fruit and veg. We feed them every other day as adults, and every day for young lizards. I would suggest, if your WD is an adult, feeding every other day with 10-20 crickets (depending on the size of the crickets) dusted with calcium and vitamin supplement. The general rule with most lizards is to put a few crickets in and feed as much as the lizard will eat in the first five minutes.

My lizard is about 6 months old. I also feed him in his water dish, so should I still put the calcium on?(I put some on his wax worms.) When I put too many crickets in his water they crawl on him, escape and hide. He is about 4-5 inches long from nose to vent.
