Question How Can You Help Your Dragon Lose Weight?

So yeah I have a nice little cute water dragon but sadly I think I fattened him up way to much. I know superworms are bad for him in big amounts and I gave him a lot of them plus phoenix worms, and red wormsbut he has just got a huge tummy now. Are there anyways I can help him lose weight? I have roaches but they're kind of too big so I just give him like 1-3 a day. I just don't want him to have any problems later on or soon for that fact because he is getting to plump XD Any ideas or suggestions are welcome because I really want to help him out but I don't want to just starve him.

Sure can. The first picture is to just show how big she is and the others are shots from different angles. I am only feeding her 3 mealies and a roach for today. Oh yeah, she has just eaten her first fish on July 9th and she has been pooping regularly, just in case you needed to know XD I really didn't know if she was to small to eat whole prey but I wanted her to start to get more nutrition and to see if she is actually interested since I know they are finicky

Hi, how long have you had the dragon? He/she doesn`t look overweight to me, the tailbase and legs look fine? I`m not sure what you mean by asking if the lizard is large enough to take "whole prey", that simply means the complete animal (rather than for instance a piece of lean meat, no skeleton/exoskeleton, intestines, etc).

I have had her for maybe 4 - 5 weeks? and I just didn't know if you are supposed to wait to a certain age of size before you start feeding fish/pinkies. I just thought maybe her stomach is getting to big cause she was way thinner than this when I got her, which I know they didn't feed her well. Plus her main staple was superworms and phoenix worms for a little until I got roaches. Its just now she seems to lay more and it kind of looks like she is starting to get a little heavy to carry herself. Or maybe she is just lazy XD

She looks fine to me. Definitely a good weight. I wouldnt put her on a diet if I was you. As far as pinkies and fish she can eat small ones now.

She looks healthy to me, my dragon is about the same and seems healthy. I wouldn't try to compare with the ones at petstores because all the ones I have seen have been severly underweight and stressed. Zen absolutly loves rosie minnows, and has no trouble with them. He is eating whole nightcrawlers now as well.

I really don't intend on feeding any pinkies which is why I was testing the fish. Do you think if I cut up the night crawlers into small portions I could feed them to her? I am really happy to hear she is a good and healthy looking. Would anyone be able to guess how old she is? I have no clue I can't wait to build her a tank and watch her grow! Its going to be funny if it turns out male, cause I will still keep the name Penelope probably

I read that 12-14in nose to tail or 4-5in nose to vent is about a year old, but Thala here said growth rates can vary so its hard to know for sure. My Zen is 5.5in nose to vent, and 15.25 nose to tail. He has no trouble with whole nightcrawlers, he loves them whole, but will not eat smaller pieces of them. Lol
