Mouth Rot?
Looks like my Chinese Water Dragon/Kiko is actually missing skin on the very tip of her mouth. There is a small gap. I never noticed black or brown there which I thought to be mouth rot.
Should I be concerned? She appears to be fine otherwise. |

Hey Blackbird, when you say gap, how big. i had a rescued WD that had mouth rot and from that its had a split in the chin. I would suggest a vet visit asap to rule out any other illnesses. Chinese Water Dragon's are also prone to snout damage (nose rub) because they can differenciate glass vs the outside world. Here is a great link to the WD caresheet.

Hey blackbird, that definitely looks like it needs medical attention before it gets any worse. Here is a section from Tricia Powers website, that might give you a better idea.
Rostral/Snout Damage Generally seen in Wild caught dragons that have been hurt during importation, or in water dragons that have been kept in either too small enclosures, or glass walled enclosures. Water dragons do not understand the concept of glass and will repeatedly bang their snouts against the glass (and screen!) while trying to get out of the enclosure. Snout damage and banging can lead to infection, mouthrot and major tissue damage. Severe injury can result in tissue being rubbed off, and even bone infection and bone death. The tissue and bone will not grow back if it is damaged. Preventing snout rubbing behaviour is the key to preventing such damage. Stomatitis (Mouthrot) Most often seen in water dragons with snout damage, or systemic infections due to improper environment or stress. Please see the "Stomatitis (Mouthrot) Page. If this ailment is not taken care of properly at home or by a vet using prescribed medications it can lead to systemic infection and death.
