Yes, screen will block some of the UVB/A, but if it`s around 6mm (1/4inch) holes, most will penetrate. If you`re planning on using a fogger or similar, and there`s a pool also, you shouldn`t need to mist at all.

no no fogger just exoterra monsoon mister and pool....but yes i can use a screen that is 1/4 holes
I`ve never used the foggers or misters, I thought they were the same thing, but it should be fine whatever...
Just so you know; if the MVB is going outside on top, you`ll need a ceramic holder for it (as well as the ceramic bulb fixture), the face of the bulb obviously cannot contact the screen, but make it a nice tight fit, so you don`t lose humidity through the screen around the bulb/holder.
I`ll tentatively suggest you might only need a 100w MVB in that size of enclosure with the room temps being quite high, so try putting normal household bulb/s around that wattage, and see what the ambient temps are, though the MVBs do direct the heat downwards to some degree, rather than all around, as with incandescents and CHEs. It will just give you some idea.
alright sounds good thank you for all the help.....i plan to start this tomorrow night i'm away at college so i have to rely on a friends father to use his tools to build this but he is a woodsmith and will be assisting i'll post some pics as i get everything started
i already have a Fluker's Sun Dome will this work for holding my mvb i beilieve it is ceramic coated i just don't want to waste my money on something i already have
It isn't the reflector that needs to be ceramic. All it needs to be is metal, not plastic.
Its the socket itself where the light screws into that has to be ceramic or porcelin. A plastic socket will melt.
o ok well this yes this will work i wasn't sure if the reflector needed a ceramic coat to keep from getting to hot... this will work fine it is a 10" diameter large dome
I only use MVBs with wattages between 160 to 275, those measure 5inches wide, by 7 long (approx 12 x 18cm). so the holder needs to be a little wider, and a little longer than that (not sure if the 100w are smaller)?
EDIT: You`re just too quick for me! Yes, it should be fine... ;)
You can add a reflective dome but if you're doing so only to protect the clearcoat I don't think it would be necessary with a 100watt bulb, especially when you take into consideration how far it will be offset from the enclosure ceiling (a couple inches of workbox+keyless lampholder+bulb stem). Either way, if you can figure out a way to fix it to the fixture, it will protect the bulb more so than if it weren't there and, of course, reflect light.
Are you all talking about the aluminium reflectors such as those that fit over fluorescent tubes, and direct light back, or just the domes that protect the bulb (not necessarily reflective)?
