Mealworms?
Hi, I have always been reluctant to feed mealworms to my dragon because of impaction due to chitin (sp?). But now Saki is going through a stage where all he will eat is worms, I won't be able to get silkworms off the internet for a while so right now my only options are waxworms and mealworms. Saki is 13.4 inches long, will there be a risk of feeding him mealworms until he decides to eat crickets again or when I can get silkworms?

Mealworms would make an excellent addition to his diet if you haven't been including them yet. Its as a constant staple that they're not so good. Is he just attracted to the worm-like appearance? Cause a mealworm and a silkworm aren't even closely related other than they're both insect larvae. Silkworms are moths and mealworms are beetles. I don't think a temporary diet of mealies would hurt if he's a healthy lizard otherwise. I wouldn't recommend them as a permanent staple though. If he's attrected to worm-like prey though, you can add in som zoophobas, and a local bait shop might have cutworms.

The pet store also offers nightcrawlers and earthworms. Would these be good to feed Saki? I'm afraid that they would be too big for him, lol I get paranoid easily. Saki is 13.4 inches long, I dont want to cut up the worms. Thanks for the help

The more variety in the diet, the better. If you can add earthworms, I'd go for it. Nightcrawlers are just larger earthworms. I wouldn't recommend them as a staple. Mealies are probably a better staple than earthworms. Crickets and silkworms are still #1 though.

I've been trying Bill on mealies for awhile. We had bought a package of prekilled ones, and he didn't really seem to interested in them (he eyed them once in awhile, ate a couple, but ignored them for the most part). I think this weekend we found a way to get around that. I bought him a couple live mealies, and put a couple in a dish with some of the prekilled. he gobbled up the live ones right away, then dumped the dish on his head and ate the dead ones while sitting under the dish (it's a really light dish, he wasn't hurt at all, just being silly). So I think now we've got an addition to crickets for him now,
