    SwitchBlade's Update

well, im going to keep a short journal of his progress, and i think that the medicine he has is working, but he still has his mouth open and now he has some mucus in his mouth aswell. so here's the short little journal:

9 / 11 - today i took him for a quick little walk out in direct sunlight with no walls around him, just me and his little leash. he enjoyed climbing my arm multiple times and walked around a bit, after a while we took him back inside and let him cool off beacue i live in texas and it's around 90 degrees and he was getting warm. he also scratched me today. i'm pretty sure it was unintentional but it started to sting after a bit, any suggestions on why that might be? He also swished his tail around a bit when my brother got near, the vet said that was a sighn of aggresion and his pupils were sort of dialated through out the trip.

Considering the fact that Herps commonly walk through their feces and such, their nails are certainly not going to be "clean" and as such you need to make sure you thoroughly clean the scratched area completely, and watch for signs of infection..(this should be done for ANY animal scratch, not just reptiles.)
As for "why" he scratched you, numerous reasons could exist..the most common is that he did so while maintaining his "grip"..(I know my Bearded Dragons when younger, were notorious for scratching when they took their baths/soaks. Basically it was their way of saying "get me outa here", and they would grab a hold of anything that they could if they thought it meant a way out of the water...and arms reaching into the tub were their first choice.)
Again, just make sure you clean the area very well and watch for signs of infection.

I get scratches up and down my arm on a daily basis, i just wash them out and put some neosporin on it if its deep. She usually scratches in order to hang on to me, or because she doesnt want to get off when i want her to.

    Re: SwitchBlade's Update

Thier nails get pretty sharp as they grow, reggies slices me pretty good sometimes, they do climb trees, so it makes sense.

Also EXPECT him to be more aggresive outside of his normal enviroment, and afterwards for a bit. The world is very scary to a captive dragon with little exposure to the outside. Reggies behaviour is night and day inside opposed to outside. Outside, he whips, tries to bite, and run away.
Inside he will sit on me and pretty much let me do what ever.

They have very tiny brains and spook very easy. Just take into consideration the nature of the beast.
Good luck with him, and keep us posted.
