Heading Off Snout Damage
Ok well since I got my guys it's been one thing after another.
First, KP comes home with a resp. infection, which the pet store paid to have treated. Now GenGen has started snout rubbing on the glass of his tank and digging to get out. I've got three of the four sides of the tank covered with paper. The only thing open is the front side. I am in the process of building a new enclosure out of a dresser, and right now I"m in the mortar phase for making a false surround of fake rock. It's gonna have lots of "climby" stuff and basking areas. It's almost done (YAY). I'm anticipating about 1 more week at the most before it's ready for moving day ![]() My question is, what can I do in the interim? He's already got a little bit of what looks like bruising from rubbing his nose. I read somewhere else that putting neosporin on it helps. What about bacitracin? Or is this bad advice? |

Re: Heading Off Snout Damage
Any triple antibiotic ointment is ok, as long as it doesn't have any pain relievers in it. I'm not familiar with bacitracin.
You could put some fake plants along the front of the glass. That will help him determine its a barrier.

That's a good idea, didn't think of that.

Re: Heading Off Snout Damage
With my 'special' leopard gecko who would bang his face against the glass for hours I took a dry erase marker and drew all over the front of the tank, tree, clouds, butterflies, you name it. That way he SAW something there and realized it was a barrier.

Re: Heading Off Snout Damage
Oooo, like those stickers you put on windows so the birds don't plow face first into them.
