AWD Breeding

Hello all,
I just joined today. I'm looking for info on the time between breeding and egg laying for AWD's. I walked in on Bandit and Lola, so I know that They have bred. Now I want to know when I should have my incubator set up. I have had Chinese Water Dragon and had live offspring from these but I don't think their breeding patterns are the same. My female Chinese Water Dragon layed eggs every month for 6 months, but AWD's I think only lay one clutch per year. I've had Bandit for 5 (he's 7 now) an Lola for 3 (she's 4 now)

Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks,
DQ

Re: AWD Breeding

Welcome to HC DQ. I wish I could help you but I know little of Water Dragons. To be honest I was under the impression that Asians and Chinese were basically the same. I'm sure someone will be around to help you, we do have a few members that have experience with them. Best of luck.

Re: AWD Breeding

Hi hey I was wondering if when you say "AWD's" you were referring to Asian or Australian WD's. I have some info on Australians so will find it and post what I find. Good Question too! Cheers, Mal

Re: AWD Breeding

Hey as I said I'd get back on this one, here it is... Incubation in Australian WDs varies according to seasonal temps and substrate heat dissipation (hence the validity of using an incubator). Although I couldn't find anything specific on the subject (still looking) I did read somewhere that condition and environmental stressors and also temps could cause some variation in time from conception to laying. This is true of birds too I believe.

Re: AWD Breeding

Thanks, I found some info in one of my old reptiles mags, but it's from 1998. It says they start breeding in March/April and finish laying in the end of April, so I guess I have a few weeks to get everything going. I've gto my fingers crossed.

Re: AWD Breeding

I don't know much about breeding, but when my dragons are of age I will definitely be looking into it. I REALLY want a Australian water dragon. I can't find them anywhere. When you get some hatchings let me know. I will pay well for one or two.

Re: AWD Breeding

I'm also interested in the australian water dragons - but, keep getting dragged into sites with australian breeders. These cannot be shipped out of australia right? I am in love with the Boyd's Forest Dragon but that is definitely something that you can't get your hands on either. When my kids are all grown and moved out (LOL)... I want lots of enclosures with live plants and varieties of reptiles (separating species of course). I told my husband that I might just turn the bedrooms into reptile rooms and start my own rescue or something. I have a few years to go - but, this is my dream.
