Need a Little Advice.
Well this is the thing, I talked to a few of you a while aback about my little WD not eating right and I didn't think he was getting enough basking time. So I did what a few people said and split them up, I split them up for about a week. And just the other day my girlfriend had the idea to let res (the little one) back into the cage for a little bit, He's hanging around Izzy, and now being more active in the cage. Seems to be even more happy then when I had him in the other cage. You think I'm ok to leave them or should I just look past it and put rex back in the other cage.

Re: Need a Little Advice.
They are also, as of now sleeping right next to each other. I'll tell you what it looks like tomorrow when they get up.

Re: Need a Little Advice.
Are they sleeping together, right under the basking light? Do you have 2 basking lights? They might be sleeping together because they want to both be in the same place, not because they want the company.
Also, what size is the enclosure you have them in and how big are they?

Re: Need a Little Advice.
Hello I'm Lisa....new to this forum but I have had Water Dragons for almost 8 years now.
I agree if you have 2 dragons in the cage you should have 2 basking lights.
I think you should just keep an eye on them in the cage together. They do have to get used to each other unless one isn't eating.
But one idea is to clean out the cage and add both Dragons at the same time. This way one of them doesn't feel like their territory is being invaded. I'm not sure what your tank looks like but my female settled down more when I added more branches and greenery. Good luck with having them together.

Re: Need a Little Advice.
Also, one week isnt enough time to see how well they do apart. What is the size difference in the two?

Re: Need a Little Advice.
A lot of the behavior between the two that may happen, you won't be able to see.
I find most WD's are shy and they stop what their doing once they see you lol.

Re: Need a Little Advice.
Well, they are in a 55 gal tank. 3/4 land and 1/4 water. The size difference is great. Rex is really little and Izzy is sub-adult. I only have one basking light in the tank.

Re: Need a Little Advice.
55 is too small for one water dragon, much less two. I'm going to put you in a closet, with someone 8 inches taller and has 100 lbs on you of pure muscle, and see if you feel intimidated... oh yeah, and you CAN'T LEAVE that room.
Here is a link to Tricia's water dragon site. Its a wonderful resource for water dragon enclosures and care. I'd take a look and see what will be expected of your housing, sooner rather than later. Enclosures for Chinese water dragons (Green, Asian, cage, vivarium, terrarium, lighting, heating, temp, humidity, water, lizard)
Your two may be able to live together in the near future, but until you provide a very large enclosure you will keep having dominance issues.

Re: Need a Little Advice.
I agree that one week is not enough. The one that you removed was probably still getting used to the separate enclosure you put him/her in. If you plan to keep two in the same enclosure you're going to need a pretty big size but even then its not guaranteed that they will get along forever. Many times a larger one will bully the smaller one, not just physically but also making sure that the little one doesn't get much to eat and things like that. They can stress each other out when you don't even realize they are because they don't always show signs while you are watching.
Be prepared to separate them. It's a good idea to have two of everything in the event you need to separate. If you ever notice them bothering each other or what looks like "just little fights every now and then", you will probably need to do so because that can be the beginning stages of a dominance issue.

Re: Need a Little Advice.
I had no idea there was much of a size difference. They should not be together. I had a bad experience with my Male killing a smaller juvi about 5 years ago. Don't risk it. Soon they will around the same size. Are they both female?
