Re: Cypress Mulch?

Those are rather small bags, and it would quickly get allot more expensive then need be. Your best bet would probaly be getting undyed cypress mulch from a gardening center. I Personally mix eco earth and Forest Floor (another type of cypress mulch, comes in a 8 dry quart bag). but mainly cause I work at a petstore, it's there (convenient) and I get a discount on it.

Re: Cypress Mulch?

I don't really know about substrates for water dragons but if it's safe to use cypress definitely get the undyed stuff (the kind that isn't red).

If you use it just make sure that it is not harmful if ingested. Some of the bark you can get can harm them or choke them if there eat it, Sometimes they get the bark instead of a yummy cricket.

Oh and by the way I use coconut bark. They seem to like it, and it is a safe substrate for them, even though the other half of my cage is water

Re: Cypress Mulch?

I don't really like coconut bark. I find it's a little too small for my liking. lol I have a sort of buffet bar for them I guess. It's just a smaller sized tupperware where I can throw all their fruits and veggies and bugs in. The lizards can just run there and lap it all up before they can jump away. (besides dusted crickets are stupid! lol)

I think I might just use soil mixed with something else to decrease the chance of impaction.

Hey! Good to see you again I haven't seen you around in a while.

Re: Cypress Mulch?

Hello

I just wanted to add what I use for bedding with my 2 Water Dragons(also use it with my Bearded Dragons & Corn Snakes). It's called CareFresh Bedding and can be found in the hamster/bedding section of most pet stores......

Re: Cypress Mulch?

Hmm it does look easy too clean and stuff but I'm afraid that with it being so flaky that my dragons will end up ingesting it. They tend to eat everything they can get their tongues on! lol

Re: Cypress Mulch?

I feed my 2 either out of a plastic dish or right from the bamboo tongs. The peices are pretty big. My Dragons have done great on this stuff for over a year now.
