Since Carefresh is just recycled paper, it isn't a very good choice for a high humidity environent.
It will grow mold, mildew and bacteria.

I doesn't in my tanks Works great in all the tanks I have it in....not like it gets soaked.
Did you read the packaging(pic).

I've never had mold....and I even have carefresh in with my adult corn snake that likes to splash the water out of his dish.

Hi. I have used sphagnum moss for bedding and also mixed it through with large pebbles and cacti mix. It was just what I had lying around and seems to work- cheap too although I keep a very close eye on what goes on in there as I don't really know about unseen dangers other than the obvious. Mine are also Australian/Eastern Water Dragons so don't know if CWDs require different substrates. Mine love the moss though

What the packaging is saying is that it is sanitized in the process of producing the product and clean when it comes out of the bag.
That doesn't mean that it won't grow mold and bacteria.

The bag says it is super absorbent ....up to 4x, I'm just saying I've used it for years with no problems.

If you don't believe me that is fine. I'm here to help people out not hurt their animals...if I had a bad experience with it I wouldn't use it or recommend it.

I'm not saying anyone HAS to use it...just saying what I use and like

Yea, I have about 1/2 inch of gravel at the bottom of my tank but Spyro's eating too much of it. I have cypress incoming at about 21$ per 2 cu ft. (fyi cypress is hard to get outside of the south) the cypress is nice for burrowing even though my water dragon isn't much of a burrower, but it's about as good as it gets for moisture retention and humidity. They say that it's a bug repellent but my last batch got infected with wood mites so be wary.

Why are you putting gravel in? Take it out if you haven't done so already.

Yeah, tank bottoms bare, my cypress arrived today, so my tegu and spyro will be diggin away tonight.

I can't wait to see the happy looks on their faces.
