Bulking Up?
My younger dragon, is about 13" and seems way to skinny. he's active, green and other wise healthy. I was thinking, but don't think it is Metabolic Bone Disease but he's shedding still and growing. He's got the uvb and dusted cricket at least once a week. And we're starting to get a lot of progress with him eating fruits, not so much with the veggies yet. Gut loading crix will have to do for now...
I just think he can use some bulking up. Yesterday he ate 20 mealies and about 10 crix. I'm thinking hes addicted to the mealies and starting to starve himself in hopes of me feeding him some. I haven't bought mealies for more or less a month until yesterday. I've gotten him some waxworms and he loves that, but I don't wanna fatten him up just on waxworms? Unless thats okay? He's not big enough to eat pinkies yet though. I'll try to get a pic up =) Thanks in advance. |

Re: Bulking Up?
If he seems extremely skinny you could try waxworms but you don't want to rely heavily on them. If it seems like he's just growing because they are very fatty. Lizards can become addicted to them and start refusing other foods and you don't want that.
Is the uvb bulb new or somewhat older? I believe they need to be replaced every 6 months but I'm not sure on that. Pics would help if you can get pics posted of him. Have you had a fecal done to check for parasites? Parasites can cause animals to lose weight and become very skinny.

Re: Bulking Up?
My iguana goes through growth spurts where he looks like he was just rescue from ethiopia, but they don't usually last much longer than about a week. I freaked the first time, but I was told it is a normal part of growing.
