Trying to Get Through the Glass

My older Water Dragon bangs his head on the glass wall over and over again. I know about the paper you can put up and all that, I did it last time, but it just looks terrible. Any other ways or ideas?

Re: Trying to Get Through the Glass

You can paint the outside of the tank, or you can get some nice looking fish tank background and put up so high. Yeah it sucks that they do it. If you don't stop him, he'll rub his nose till its an open wound. Which will cause problems. Best thing to do is find something to cover it.

Re: Trying to Get Through the Glass

Yeah, this isn't the first time I had this problem, he rubbed his snout red before, and it had scabs. I took good care of him after that and it went away. But thanks, I'll put that up till I home make a cage.

I was also going to say that it may be that the cage he is in is too small.

Re: Trying to Get Through the Glass

Well generally this is just how water dragons are. Despite if it was a large cage. The see the reflection and rub on it. Not to bright lol.

Re: Trying to Get Through the Glass

Yeah, even at the pet store when I bought Izzy (my oldest) that day I picked him out he was rubbing the wall. But thanks for all the ideas. Even if they weren't much different from what I tried before.

Re: Trying to Get Through the Glass

Yes, but how big is the enclosure? He may need an upgrade. They tend to rub more if their home is too small.

Re: Trying to Get Through the Glass

Sorry forgot I had this Post. The current tank is a 55 gal. Tank. It seems to be big enough. But not sure.

Re: Trying to Get Through the Glass

Water dragons need height. You might try building a tank topper. Essentially a tall box to sit on top of the aquarium.
And try putting some artificial plants around the base of the inside of the tank to serve as a visual barrier to the glass. Even with paper on the outside it will still create a mirror effect where the dragon can see its reflection.
