Re: My Water Dragon Died And Came Back To Life
My water dragon is doing this very behavior as we speak. I just woke up and found her in the pool, "lifeless". My lady does not float-- she stays on the bottom. This has happened many times before, but I never had the know-how to come online and ask.
Whenever I find her like this I always take her out of the pool. More times than not she continues to sleep even after I place her on dry land.
Today as soon as I attempted to remove her from the water she struggled and thrashed to get back to her watery bed. She is fully submerged when she does this. The first time I saw her do this it was devastating and I was sure she had passed away.
I am in the process of building her a new enclosure (6ft high, 6 ft wide, 2.5 ft deep), so I am going to try and give her a heated pool so I don't have to worry about her body processes slowing while performing this behavior in cold water.

Re: My Water Dragon Died And Came Back To Life
You can find fish tank heaters small enough for 3-5 gallon tanks. I have one in my 4 gallon beta tank. Works great!

Re: My Water Dragon Died And Came Back To Life
I remember when I first received Zoey. I let her swim in the little wading pool in the yard, water wasn't cold (I'm in AZ) and she swam around a little, floated and drifted off to deep sleep. In the three years I've had Emmie, she naps and can be revived rather quickly but Zoey, she just would not show any signs of life for about 15 mins even after pulling her out of the water. I thought for certain I had killed her, I was devestated. But, then she just woke up. Now, I pay close attention to her and when she looks like she's starting to zonk out - then, I pull her out and let her lie on my lap in the sun or something. Her previous owner let me know, only after that incident, that this was normal behavior for her. I think it is a relaxation thing - I tend to want to nod out in a warm bath too.

Re: My Water Dragon Died And Came Back To Life
I believe water dragons can hold their breath for over an hour.
Don't ask me where I heard that though.... I don't remember.

Haha, mine does this all the time it live in a 30 gallon tank along with my african side-neck turtle. It freaked me out at first but once I realized what it was doing I was like well I do that too.

Re: My Water Dragon Died And Came Back To Life
I would think they would know better or are able to stay under water for long periods of time. I mean, what would they do in the wild without someone to wake them up?
