Lighting Question
So what happens if we leave the UVB light on overnight? I've done it a couple of times where I forget to turn it off. Is it a big concern that I've left it on sometimes? I've noticed that they still sleep through it.

Re: Lighting Question
Several reasons why it's not a good idea:
1. You too can try to sleep with the lights on, but does it mean you're getting a good night sleep? More than likely not. The bright light helps to keep the brain busy.
2. When you leave just the UVB on (do you use a basking light too...or is is a UV/heat combo?)...and it's only a UVB source...the UVB can cause damage to the inner eye even through the eyelid.
3. It's offers no regulated photo period.
Using a timer will be your's...and your WD's best friend. I would go crazy without timers on my set-ups. This way if I sleep in, I can still be assured the lights come on at the same time everyday...and if I'm out in the evening...I don't worry about them staying on too long. Reptiles need a regular schedule for their photo period. Turning them on and off when we feel like it...or remember...is really not good for the animal. For $5+ you can have peace of mind - and your WD can have a normal lighting schedule...:-D

Re: Lighting Question
Alright thanks for the help!
No its separate from the basking light. I always turn the basking light off. Usually I'll turn the basking light off first, let the lizards settle down and then an hour later or so turn the uvb one off.
I definitely will be using a timer! Thanks
EDIT: oh also a question, don't wanna double post
uhmm what are the effects of photo periods on the growth and development on the lizzies.

Re: Lighting Question
Photoperiods help to control behavior, breeding cycles, brumation, appetite and more. There's still a lot of trial and error on exact strengths of light needed for different species, but all experts agree that following a regulated cycle is essential for good health.

Re: Lighting Question
Yeah I have my timed, they know their bedtime anyways. they start to find a good spot, and then lay down around 11. But I also had a question about this... What about the heat lamp, Can it be on all the time, or should I buy another one and put a night bulb in it?

Re: Lighting Question
anything that produces light should be off at the same time. If you need additional heat, look into a heat projector or a ceramic heat emitter. They are light-less.

Re: Lighting Question
related questions. I'm gonna go in to replace my flourecent UVB bulb, right now I have reptisun 5.0. For my water dragons should I upgrade to 10.0?
It says 10.0 is for dessert dwellers, but i've heard that some people use 10.0 for water dragons, which can be beneficial too?
also whats better exo terra (reptiglo) or reptisun?

Re: Lighting Question
The Reptisun has been a proven brand for many years. It's the best overall tube of all the ones on the market today...:-D
