Re: Strange Behavior

If you have a glass tank sometimes they can see themselves and think it is another water dragon and they will do that. Some people put up the decorative paper that you use for fish around the outside of the tank or some type of poster board so they can't see themselves as much. Your tank also may be too small for your dragon. If they do it too much they can get infections on their nose too so watch for that.

Re: Strange Behavior

well he is just a baby about seven inches and his tank is a fourty gallon one so I didnt think it would be too small yet... i love him so much and I do not want him to hurt his little nose... do you think making a net out of old BDU strips inside the edges of the tank would help like that... i am clueless, i have never owned a reptile and I want the best for my little guy.

Re: Strange Behavior

Just take some kind of paper or towel, whatever and cover the sides and the back. You will however need to get a bigger tank soon. Water Dragons prefer hieght vs width. There are lots of posts regarding this...check them out and so some research

Re: Strange Behavior

Post some pics of your setup. A picture is worth a thousand words. As far as size goes here's my enclosure for a 9 1/2 month old male and a 6 month old female.

You don't have to go this big but size is a MAJOR factor in nose rubbing. Stress is another factor. Stress can be caused by inadequate husbandry(poor heating, lighting etc.), disease, being in high traffic areas etc.

"Water dragons need height, since they are climbers, but they also need length. Provide branches to climb on (soak in weak bleach solution to kill parasites first, rinse well, and let dry), plants, basking areas, hiding areas, and ideally if you can make at least 1/3 of the ground area water.

Water Dragons need a space at least 2 x their total length therefore you will eventually need to provide an enclosure that is a min. of 6 ft long (side to side), 2-3 feet deep and 4-6 feet high to do it right." -Tricia Powers

Visit Care of The Chinese Water Dragon lizard (enclosure, diet, health, illness, temp, heat, humidity, cage, vivarium, terrarium). You'll find pretty much everything you need to know about dragons. Good luck!
