Re: Looking Out the Window

We are just trying to help you,, we are not trying to criticize you. we have been doing this for many years with many errors and are just trying to help you from our errors.

However what was stated above is true,,, reptiles dont "love" each other. It is hard for us to be just all smiles, when in your past threads and this one you are making some serious mistakes,, mistakes that in the end could cost you your animals life. You are not there to watch them 24/7 so chances are, there is some dominance issues that you are not witnessing. All we have tried to do is help you and give you the proper info and knowledge as to what is best for your critters. However, you take take serious offense.
I ENCOURAGE yoo to do a little research on your own about each specific reptile you have, and I can assure you that you will get the same answers that we are giving. These are all questions and statements taht could have been answered if a little bit of research was done in the first place.
good luck with your critters.

Re: Looking Out the Window

How are you sure that the constant following around is not a territorial thing? I have been doing iguana rescue for years, and that is the first thing that they do,, is follow their opponent around until the one either submits,, or they fight. The one that is following is probably the one who also eats first,, am I right?

Re: Looking Out the Window

My son started out with bearded dragons which we still have 4 of. Then he decided to buy a basilisk which was killed by one of our dragons. Stupidity on our part but the basilisk was so tame and we let him out of the cage and our dragon attacked it. We took him to the vet but it was too hurt so they put him to sleep. So I felt bad and I started looking for another green basilisk. Well we found him and he was my sons. So I was at superpet one day and seen this little tiny water dragon and I thought I would purchase him for myself. So after spending lots of money on lights and cage etc. I brought him home and enjoyed watching him. Then my son came in the living room carrying the basilisk and said lets put them together and see what happens. I was against it being 2 different species and after spending all that money, and only just getting my water dragon. But that is the story and they have been together ever since. We have some reptariums I could sleep in they are so big. In a couple of weeks they are going in a big reptarium when it gets nice and warm. They love it because they can climb up and down the screen. I wonder why they make all these REPtariums for reptiles if the uv doesnt get through. You would think they would know what they are doing.

Re: Looking Out the Window

Are you talking about those screened mesh black things? If so they are designed for Chameleons who are low level uvb animals. It is not that none of the uvb gets through those fine screens,, it is that it is filtered out so that your high level requiring animals do not get enough and then in turn suffer from serious ailments, due to improper uvb. Very little uvb gets through those. Those things are designed as open air habitats because chameleons have to have that in order to survive.

Re: Looking Out the Window

What about cutting the shape of the uv out of the top of the screen and let it hang down inside cage. Mine is enclosed in a black case holding the uv. I know you would have to stabilize it. I wonder why all these reptile places dont know about this uv not getting into their cages. Being filtered out. I called one and she said the uv does get through but I guess the people on here are the experts.

Re: Looking Out the Window

That is one of the sad things about the pet industry. There is absolutely no regulation that requires proof that the products sold are fit for the use they are sold for! There are many things on the market that are not only worthless for their advertised use, but some are downright dangerous!

Is this what you are using, the ESU Slimline light fixture? ESU SLIMLINE REPTILE FIXTURE WITH 18" SUPER UV LAMP These are a good example! They come with a plastic sheild over the bulb, totally screening out any UVB the bulb is generating. You have to remove the sheild for the lamp to do any good at all.
As for the fixture it would be preferable to put it inside the enclosure. Having a hole cut in the reptarium will enable the lizards to eventually find their way out.

Nobody here is trying to make you feel bad. Thats not what we are here to do. You do seem to take offense at people who try to tell you something that you don't wish to hear. I know its very easy for us to put human attributes on to our animals and to be truthful most of us do it to one extent or another.
But reptiles just aren't wired that way

This is correct. We only want what is best for the animal. None of us knew what we were doing the first time around. We all had a learning curve. Now we want to pass along our mistakes to you, so you don't make the same ones.

Please don't take what we suggest personally.
