No you didn't do the same thing. Your Basilisk eating the pinkie is "attached" to the thread using the attachments system. The links you are trying to post are called "embedded" images.
If you look at your basilisk pic, you will see it is below the thread and not in it. That means you clicked the "Manage Attachments" button before you posted that. In the above examples, you are clicking the little picture in editor toolbar and then adding a url that doesn't exist.
I also want to mention that I have already posted how to add pictures, correctly, to threads.
