Trying to Fix My Previous Mistake...

Well, I housed my two CWDs in the same homemade cage for like 2 months. I noticed one of my CWDs was always skinnier than the other, and always spent her days on the ground until it was night when she would go back up to the top. To me that sounded like domination, after watching her actions for alittle bit longer I decided I had to seperate her. I built her, her own cage with everything for her own. I noticed that its almost like....her body is on a different clock, during most of the day she spends on the ground in the dark. Then when the afternoon comes, she starts to get active, and then toward the night she can be found on top of the cage by the light. I wasnt really sure what to do when I saw this last night....so I just left the light on for her for a little bit longer.....What would you guys do if you were in this situation? leave the light on a little bit longer? or Just turn em off at normal time and hope in a few days shell adjust to the light schedule?

Re: Trying to Fix My Previous Mistake...

What are your temps?
When it is really cold here and my bearded dragon doesn't sleep under his basking light sometimes I have to pick him up in the morning and move him otherwise he wont move all day. Just a few degrees makes all the difference.

Also I'm not sure how beneficial your UVB light is going to be from that high up, especially if the dragon spends all of her time on the floor.

How long ago did you move her?

Re: Trying to Fix My Previous Mistake...

She's probably still adjusting to the move. Given that previously she was living in fear of another reptile, she probably needs a bit of time to get used to the fact that she's safe and alone. I'd keep up the normal lighting schedule and see how thing play out. If, after a week or two, she still seems to be more nocturnal, then you may want to play with a lighting schedule that will work better for her.

I agree with Lacey, though, that she probably needs to be closer to the light. You may want to add a basking shelf up closer to the light, so that when she does feel more comfortable, she can hang out right up under there and get the full benefit of the light.

Re: Trying to Fix My Previous Mistake...

Yeah, trust me that the only reason why I left the light on last night so late, because she was probably 2-4 in from the bulb and I just didnt want to shut off her uvb when I hardly see her near it, i let her stay up till like 11 last night...I finished up the cage sunday and moved her in on monday of this week. I need to return my dead plant to home depot for another live one, and then hopefully that will add more comfort for her(they have a year guarantee on their plants)Yeah, its around 76 in the house..andd like venus said should get around 85 today...I will give the normal schedule longer of a try to see if she will adjust...I can already tell she likes having her own place, shes already gained some weight (she used to weigh 56 grams, and was around 16in, but she recently got over parasites and an infection...i love my vet)

I go to Dr. White, hes awesomee has many experiences that hes gone through with his own reptiles. And he actually cares about the animals too....hes quite the amazing vet. Im glad I found him in reptiles magazine. Hes fixed all my problems pretty much on the first time, the parasites, and the infection. He gave me baytril and 4 needles to inject her with..i was nervous but it workeddd

Re: Trying to Fix My Previous Mistake...

i would add a few more large branches or boards up into the upper areas. your dragon will like the added climbing space.
